Exhibition and events

At the Culture centre are permanent exhibitions for example information about Gunnar Gunnarsson and his life, temporary art exhibitions and numerous events are held every year.

 


Exhibitions

The cultural centre has two permanent exhibitions. One tells the story of the writer Gunnar Gunnarsson, his life and his works. The other one is about the history of the medieval monastery and the research that was performed in the years 2002-2012. Temporary exhibitions are set up, for example around Easter, December and occasionally in the summer.PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS

Gallerí Klaustur

Gallery Klaustur is a small space for art exhibitions on the 1st floor of Gunnar's mansion. Foremost it is used for contemporary art exhibitions by artists from the region or artists that are staying in the residency at Skriðuklaustur. But it is available for other artists as well.

From spring till autumn there is a new exhibitions in Gallery Klaustur every 3-4 weeks. But in wintertime it is occasionally in use, often in connection with other events.

The director of the Institute of Gunnar Gunnarsson is in charge of Gallery Klaustur and those who are interested in exhibiting there can contact Skriðuklaustur

Events

The cultural centre hosts various cultural events every year, for example concerts, seminars and lectures. After almost 20 years some events are becoming a tradition and held annually. Amongst these are: Passion walk from Valþjófsstaður church to Skriðuklaustur on Good Friday; service by the monastic ruins on 3rd Sunday in August; Festival about Gryla, mother of the Yule lads on 1st Sunday of December and reading of Advent by Gunnar Gunnarsson on the 3rd Sunday of December. Outdoor rock concert in connection with the regional Ormsteiti festival is also annual along with competition in unsual sports.
