Art in Nature in the gallery

karlchilcottSaturday 8th July at 2 pm a new exhibition will be opened in gallery Klaustur. It is the Swedish sculptor Karl Chilcott who will show a collection of pictures taken by his daughter Christine Chilcott of Art in Nature project that he worked on three years ago in the surroundings of the Icelandic village Skagaströnd. Karl and Christine Chilcott are now artists in residency at Skriðuklaustur, working on their project Lava Poetry, experiencing and working with the landscape around Vatnajökull glacier.

Photo by Stuart RicharsonA new exhibition will be opened in gallery Klaustur Saturday 10th June. The photographer Stuart Richardson exhibits his series of black & white pictures taken in Fljotsdalur valley and Hallormsstaður forest. The title of the exhibition is The Quiet.

The exhibition is open every day 10:00 - 18:00 and will stand until 5th July.

work by Katarina CakovaThe summer is here and now we are open every day from 10:00 - 18:00. Klausturkaffi offers lunch and cake buffet every day. This weekend is the last opportunity to see Katarina Cakova's works in gallery Klaustrid on the exhibition Unexpected connections. ATTENTION. Klausturkaffi café will be closed on Sunday, 4th June from 15:00 due to a privat party.


Culture Fund Grants

uthlutun2017a18th May is Gunnar Gunnarsson's birthday and also the International Museum Day. To celebrate that the Gunnar Gunnarsson Culture announced its grants for the year 2017. The minister of culture affairs, Kristján Þór Júlíusson, took part in the ceremony and remind guest of that Gunnarsson was active museum's matters in his time and established the Heritage Museum of East Iceland along with others in the 40s.

Four projects got grants from the Culture Fund this year. The highest amount 500.000 ISK was donated to a film project based on Advent by Gunnar Gunnarsson (The Good Shepherd). Haukur Ingvarsson's research on William Faulkner and his Iceland's visit in 1955 where he was hosted by Gunnar Gunnarsson received 250.000 ISK. Two projects got 200.000 ISK. Hannes H. Gissurarson's research on Gunnarsson's activity in the cold war and Steinunn Gunnlaugsdóttir's et al. art exhibition in the Slaugtherhouse in Egilsstadir this summer.
